His Father's Eyes

by Suzie Q

I'm sure the pride you feel for your son
Is much more than words can say
May he know in his heart
He was loved from the start
And may he feel that love every day

Though he seems small in this great big world
God will hold him in the palm of His hand
May He lead him and guide him
And walk right beside him
And teach him all he needs to understand

Since there's no such thing as a perfect child
May he have wisdom to learn from his mistakes
Wherever life may lead him
The grace of God will keep him
And may it illuminate each step that he takes

May he be blessed to know the joys of life
And may his happiness outweigh his sorrows
May he calmly sail through any storm
With a blanket of peace to keep him warm
And may that peace last through all his tomorrows

Whatever challenges he may face in life
May his struggles be brief and few
But if he sees only the footprints of one
Then he was carried by the love of God's Son
May that love give him courage to see it through

Through the ups and downs of everyday life
May he seldom know the sorrow of goodbyes
If he should stumble, fail or fall
May God help his heart to recall
The pride he saw in his father's eyes

I just came upon this poem I wrote for a store manager I used to have. He just became a Dad and he was bragging to all of us about his son. It was so sweet, it inspired me to write this poem in the hopes that one day he could pass it on to him one day. Thanks to RRusk for the use of the photo
