Rememberance Day

by Aussie

WW1:

Beneath the mud and blood
Men crawled into rat traps
Trench warfare saved lives
"At what cost, you say?"

"We will remember them"

Choking sand of the Sinai
Pyramids silent sentinels
Raging thirst, deadly loss
Count the loss; both sides now.

"We will remember them"

WW2:
In the jungles of Papua New Guinea
Slit throats, yellow peril
Rain diluted their blood
Pacific War raging.

"We will remember them"

WW2:

Below the waves darkly
Submariners, brave sailors
Sardine tins at sea
"At what cost, you say?"

"We will remember them"

WW3:

Whispers of dread and fear
Headless innocents, sightless stare
Across the world, black blood pools
Refugees lost and found -

To be continued...

"At the going down of the sun
and in the morning. We will remember them."
