Kyrielle Sonnet

In Her Lair

by w.j.debi

A burst of flame. A wary glance.
No, nothing's left to circumstance.
This clutch of eggs, she'll guard with care.
The dragon queen is in her lair.

The treasure trove shall grow and swell;
it's where her precious gems now dwell.
You knights of valor best beware,
the dragon queen is in her lair.

An evil monster, she must die.
Thus claims the human battle cry.
Oh, let them come if they so dare.
The dragon queen is in her lair.

A burst of flame. A wary glance.
The dragon queen is in her lair.

The Kyrielle Sonnet combines features of the Kyrielle and the Sonnet. Like the sonnet, it has 14 lines. Like a Kyrielle, each line has 8 syllables and each quatrain has a refrain line. The final couplet is made by combining the first line of the poem and the refrain.
