Everyday Riches


Perhaps I'm not wealthy; let's face it - I'm broke.
I've several aches; a most strangling yoke.
But life is so rich with the blessings of God -
His miracles daily - in Him I'm so awed!

He shows me the birth of a small, baby bird;
a toddler saying her very first word.
Each morning the birdsong that fills hearts with joy -
the secret, sweet cuddles between girl and boy.

The sunrise that greets every dawn with such hue -
those tangerine waves - a spectacular view!
In winter the snowdrifts wear diamonds like Kings,
while swift birds of prey spread their glorious wings.

And autumn has blazes no fire can match,
bright oranges and yellows o'er beautiful patch
of meadow that's filled with His own goldenrod,
and purple of loosestrife - now say you're not awed!

In springtime the lambs all cavorting so free -
the fragrance of lilac; the budding of tree.
Summer fresh breezes - the gardens, the blooms!
The beautiful brides and the good-looking grooms...

Bright sunshine that's blessing a field of rye wheat,
or sun-dappled shade by a brook - my retreat.
I find I can rest in its sweet melody.
The gurgle and hum - so refreshing for me!

As night falls, black velvet to welcome the moon,
and crickets in summer keep beating the tune
for every small creature He's blessed with a song -
the hoot of the owl, and the fence-sitting throng.

My feline enjoys that loud cat serenade,
(but she is a housecat, and she has been spayed)!
The neighbours, however, are not at all thrilled,
though I am bemused by the comedy billed.

God knows what I need and He always provides.
The house of the Lord is where laughter resides.
Even those things that annoy all those grumps,
He gives me to giggle at; hurdle the bumps.

The riches in life are not silver or gold,
and yes - there are trials as we're growing old,
but I wouldn't trade-in one second of time
that He has created - His work is sublime.
