summer vacation

On the road again, Denver bound with my daughter, Monica. We traveled the Nebraska truckers' highway cruising at 77 mph. Daylight was our goal with the 15 hour journey from Southern Minnesota to see my brother in Colorado. Sometimes, drivers tailgated us, but we let them pass. We had plans, destiny and hoped for a bright future.

We drove on across the country, free from fear with a Garmin GPS as a guide and prayers of the saints. My thoughts of what makes one happy were like pieces of puzzles. When we stopped, I asked people this question. At Starbucks coffee shop, we were happy with a refreshing cool drink of tea and coffee. They were happy for conversations and shared their tasty treats. We pressed on.

Monica and I saw different types of farming. In Minnesota and Iowa, the farmers depended on rain to water the fields. In Nebraska, the farmers have underground water with long sprays to keep the crops green. Sometimes, we saw free raised cattle farms. The farmers' joy was in their crops, cattle and county fairs.

We were thankful that we had snacks and sandwiches to eat. With money for gas and a safe Cadallic to drive, we drove on. Monica's goals were to move to Denver and seek jobs in psychology research in a master's programme. She knew to start a new life with joy, she would live with her uncle and family. To get her started with income, she needed a job in retail. Dreams of a new life in sunny Colorado made Monica smile.

Family was a top answer to my question. Mom's shared photos and stories of their youth growing up. Loretta, my sister-in-law showed us tee shirt quilts of Columbine High School days of her three children. We saw graduation and family photos on the walls and photo books on the table. The meals that we shared were excellent and I discovered my brother was a great cook!

Dave and I found joy in gardening. I brought a large pot of my favorite blooming perennials for his garden. Loretta's face shone with joy when she received a large bag of chocolate candy bars. We explored the Denver shopping malls and grocery stores. We climbed the Red Rocks and saw the mountain majesty of God's art work at Estes Park, Rocky Mountains! I shot photos of the water falls and lakes. Precious time spent together as we helped others succeed brought joy to our hearts. David, helped the next generation with his children and mine. We sowed for a harvest, blessed to be a blessing, God's way.

I discovered during my research that connections of family, friends and walk with God brought joy and happiness. The ladies on Spirit plane cheered me up as I flew home. We talked about our families like we were long time friends.
