The Explorer

by davisr (Rhonda)

I will be a great explorer, the best there's ever been
the world will pay my wages, I'll get money from the queen,
I'll discover many places a new world I will find
a treasure trove of countries to house all of mankind.

I have a giant boat twelve foot from bow to stern
just waiting to be boarded, I'll watch the oceans churn,
while I'm on my travels I find a place called Spain
I'll settle it then turn around and head back home again.

Perhaps I'll take a detour to impress the kings and queens
and discover good old Portugal they'll be amazed at where I've been,
Japan will be my next stop where I'll grow a lot of rice
they say the weather can be cruel but also really nice.

I'll pop down to Australia, which should pay a lot of cash
a place of sun and surf where big waves tend to crash,
a drive by of some islands, the Philippines sounds good
so tiny yet so beautiful where no person ever stood.

From there I'll go to Italy, get your checkbooks out you guys
when Presidents see my new found lands they sure will be surprised,
while there I'll plant tomatoes, that's what I'll do of course
and invent some healthy food to cook called spaghetti sauce.

Off I go to Greenland where no human has been seen
but I'll have to watch those penguins, they can be really mean,
I feel my riches growing as I plan my next sojourn
amazing with such simple plans how much a man can earn.

Next I'll find Atlantis, a missing continent, they say
I'll be the one to find it, and everyone will come to pay,
the people will be different from anyone else I know,
they'll have webbed feet and golden eyes like creatures far below.

I will leave the Atlantic far behind, the Pacific in my sights
I'll climb the coast of the USA, and get to Canada by night,
If I hit the shore too hard, I will promptly say "I'm sorry"
it seems people in Canada are given to endless worry.

Niagara Falls will be where you find me searching next
I'll roll off in a barrell, and send the picture in a text,
off I will go hunting moose and rope them like a cowboy,
then hang their pictures on the wall, killing would bring no joy.

Across the Pacific Ocean, I will press with sails hung high
until I get to Russia where mountains reach the sky,
I'll follow where the Vikings walked, explore the frozen sod,
never will I be afraid to go where no one else has ever trod.

In Russia I'll invent the helicopter and videotape recorder
I will be so rich, I'll save the whales then end hunger on each border,
I'll sail away again with more riches to uncover,
land back on a secret island where new friends I'll discover.

Gold and treasures I will have and a trunk full of doubloons
but for my newest discovery, the world will pay a fortune,
on this island I will roam, and learn that peace of mind
is the truest treasure, that the world will ever find.
