Dreams of unfinished business

In the Coldest of Decembers

In the Coldest of Decembers

All is quiet in my moonlit world
around me is curled a blanket soft
Tree branches dance my window pane,
dreams turn but not by chance

You left in coldest of Decembers
transgression unspoken, behind
your eyes truth had no expression
no furtive glances to betray

April years ago we met, chill winds
shivered young blooms, laughter
rose, warmed hearts as we spoke
vows in front of kin, sacred oaths

Your familiar face smiles there
as you scold, playfully admonishing
for some mistake, kissing me while
running fingers through my hair

Where has time drained itself away,
rivers running dry before reaching the sea?
Jagged future looks down with concern,
question marks, insecurities fray

Harsher, dreams weave in sway
I try to talk to you, unfinished business
anew raises an ugly head up
Why? What made you turn away?

Leave me, our children, your nest?
We built a dream, you threw it away.
This pain is senseless, you never confide
this deficit is deafening, was it all a lie?

Wake from my dream, sweating, cast it aside
see our sleeping children down the hall
still small, they are so real but you are not
I've left you in the stones by the "wailing wall"
