Seville Stirs Senses

walled city
holds ancient aqueduct
brick minarets loom

Gothic cathedral
depicts worldly paradise
dramatic and vast

immense gold altar
portrays scenes from Christ's life
massive picture-book

giant organ projects
horizontal pipes as well
heaven resonates

tomb of Columbus
is hoisted by four saints
he traveled well

modern leveraged
bridges span river arms
world exhibition's gifts

jacaranda and
orange trees dot streets
stained-glass Seville


Our first adventure on our recent trip to Spain was exploring Seville. Columbus was once interred there but was returned by his son to Santo Domingo. Apparently, a few ounces of his bones remain in the tomb. The cathedral's organ really does have horizontal pipes in addition to the traditional vertical ones. Ole'!
