Suffering By The Numbers
 
 
                                they
                the many
                thousands
                                millions
                the victims…
                                              
                                     mass
 

global hunger
genocide
oh the humanity indeed
                how vast the well to dip our concern
                                how safe our hearts when we view
                                                from afar
 

dare we with trembling hand
                touch the one shoulder
or with weary arms
                embrace the emaciated single soul
                                 but it involves us…
 

human suffering draws interest
           necks strain as blood is sought on the highway
                          windows roll up and our breath fogs the glass
                indignation
                outrage
                shock
                a marshmallow roast of togetherness
 

alone … seek another
                share hearts
                                help
 

suffer alone
                heal together
 

suffering is a numbers game
 
                               
                                        one
