Silver Screen Obsession

by mfowler

Natasha dreams of Monte Carlo
in luxury with Howard Hughes.
She fancies swinging with Jean Harlow,
parading pampered on the news.
Natasha wears the chic and cool;
designs to emphasise her feel.
With Greta Garbo chic to fool,
a flowing dress and red high heels.
Natasha fancies Humphrey Bogart
and flirting long with Errol Flynn.
Thinks she's appreciating Mozart
by playing platters, sipping gin.
Natasha's problems lie in timing
if she desires the silver screen.
Her style's emerging, talent's climbing,
but she lives now, and she's thirteen.
Great Gran's to blame for showing movies
so old, they come in Beta mode.
She loved the look, the thirties' groovies;
the seeds of her obsession sewed.
We tell her that she's out of step;
that Flynn has swashed and lost his buckle.
To think of Cruise or Johnny Depp.
Replies with Mickey Rooney's chuckle.
Oh, child of mine please join Facebook.
Become a freak like modern kids.
Give up the costumes, and that base look
of ruby lips and shadowed lids.
