Oh, Child Divine

Write a Sonnet Contest Winner

Oh, child of mine, your eyes invite a mother's
celestial hope for peace and
children's play;
a world of laughter, memories like the others,
who wish to see their boy, a man some day.
Oh, child divine, your face illumines life.
My heart is glad, alight with boundless joy.
I want to keep, protect you from all strife.
'For you are perfect in my eyes, dear boy'.
But, destiny unfolds; no mother's vision.
Her plans, a pittance in the scheme of things.
I've nourished you, rewarding my decision,
devoting life to him born king of kings.
Oh child, I'll raise you like a mother should,
and feel your pain beneath the bloodied wood.
