Those sug'ry, deadly giant pies, guaranteed to make me blind

My Big Apartment in the Sky

by mfowler

I walk as lonely as the crowd;
its babble blocking all I feel.
I've lost my way - I'm tired and cowed;
no sense of what is fake or real.
My big apartment in the sky
is hosting dreams, all ego lined.
Those sug'ry, deadly giant pies,
are guaranteed to make me blind.
I came to town to see the smoke.
'It's big,' they said with foxish grin,
'Teach you tricks and you won't be broke.
Just catch those fish and reel them in.'
The stock ticked up and I grew fat
as bulls escaped and bears growled gloom.
The big apartment hung with bats
which crapped on toys that filled the room.
I walk as lonely as the crowd
its babble blocking all I feel.
I ate the pie, made foxes proud.
We fleeced the sheep in one big steal.
I'm leaving now, don't know, don't care
if golden highways peter out.
Can't cheat or steal another's share.
This guilty fox is way past doubt.
I walk alone past sky's high pies,
The crowd will drown in autumn rain.
I'll lay in fields where no-one lies.
Integrity will be my gain.
