The Ride

by Just2Write

I ride my pony on this hill,
where night is cold and very still;
yet in my heart I have a song
and God be willing, always will.

We keep our pace both sure and strong
with steady footfalls that belong
to echoes on the countryside
where all seems right and nothing's wrong.

We hear the wolf, and can't abide
those haunting howls, yet can't decide
If he's a danger, or our guide.
We can't ignore him if we tried.

The Wolf is often misunderstood and was once considered vermin by ranchers. Bounties were put on their heads and they were exterminated almost to the point of extinction.
Now, with careful planning, they are making a come back.
In Native American cultures, the wolf is held in high regard. It is because of this respect for the animal that the wolf and symbols for the wolf appeared in the art, mythology and religion. Like the Bear, the Wolf is considered both strong and wise.
