Reconciling With Dad

Finally! I'm having dear old Dad for dinner. I haven't seen him since I left home when I was sixteen. We didn’t leave on the best of terms. I admit that I've held a grudge and let it fester and grow like a black cancer on my soul. I'm hoping this evening's diner will finally bring me peace.

The years have passed with shocking speed
I've held a grudge for your misdeeds
I forgive you, Pops for your faux pas
I think I'll make a swell foie gras

Mums will be here standing by
vaguely staring at the sky
nothing bad is ever done
when you scrutinize the sun

Uncle Billy couldn't make it this time
I had him last week for lunch (he was sublime)
I forgave him too for his participation
I'm not surprised- brothers with the same inclination

Well, Dad, I see the drinking hasn't affected your liver. It's not as bad as we all suspected. A little trimming and it's good to go. I must say your brain is mush though. Hmmm. A pate! Perfect. I'm so delighted!

Sautéed liver, brain pate
I'm pleased that we could meet today
I will savor every bite
my room will be unlocked tonight

I suppose that some might find it strange that after years of abuse I have my father for dinner.

But, I've always read
that to forgive is divine.
I feel much better now
for it's Dad on which I dine.

Yes, I know "Vengeance is mine"
(Of course, I've read that too).
Don't worry. There's plenty to go around.
Make yourself a plate… some burgundy for you?

Raise a glass. To dear, delicious Dad.
Thanks for being dinner!

Exaggerated, of course. Just a cathartic dinner for anyone that has been abused in any way. Just a fantasy to blow off some steam. Don't try this at home!
