Autumn's Colors

by ArtGal

autumn is in wait
like a baby's birth
nine months preparing
its glorious colors
to be seen miles away

each leaf on display
not one the same
like snowflakes
proud of their
coats of many colors
when swaying
they're waving for attention
a look at me ego

before long
such beauty falling
to the ground
an artist's palette
a blanket covering green
children veiled as they play
in their yards

after dinner walks
donning a light coat
from autumn's chill
crunches under feet
leaving echoes
that cold will return
but not until
roadside apples and juice
are at their best
a day's jaunt
on rustic roads
shine upon colors from heaven

there they will return
with more colors next year
but their leaves
will change value
darken and die
then disappear
leaving trees bare
nature's beauty disappears
until winter's snow
gives them
a coat of white
until spring arrives
