Pantoum Sonnet

Snatched

by w.j.debi

Tonight, we fairies feel so fearsome wild.
Dark mischief fuels the fire within our veins.
We're on the prowl to snatch a human child--
A prank like this so truly entertains.

Dark mischief fuels the fire within our veins.
We'll leave enchanted fetch and gain a pet.
A prank like this so truly entertains.
But humans, oh, so quickly you forget.

We'll leave enchanted fetch and gain a pet.
To leave your child unguarded is unwise,
But humans, oh, so quickly you forget.
The changeling child will be our precious prize.

Tonight, we fairies feel so fearsome wild.
We're on the prowl to snatch a human child.

A Pantoum Sonnet is a combined form
Like the sonnet it is 14 lines of iambic pentameter with three quatrains and a couplet.
Like a pantoum it has repeated lines
The 2nd and 4th line of the first stanza become the 1st and 3rd lines of the second stanza. The 2nd and 4th lines of the second stanza become the 1st and 3rd lines of the third stanza. The lines of the closing couplet are the same as the 1st and 3rd lines of the beginning stanza.

Fetch= enchanted sticks or wood that is left in place of a human child. The "fetch" looks likes just like the human child that has been taken by the fairies, but slowly sickens and dies.
Pays one point and 2 member cents.
