The Pillow

by ArtGal

I have only one craving
not food nor drink
but to melt in your arms
leaving my perfume behind
its evaporation will be slow indeed
branded into your thoughts and memories
as long as forever may be

I have only one desire
to wake each morn smiling
as you cradle the forgotten pillow
unused yet worn through the years
of waiting for you
and when night silently calls
we replace the empty glass of wine
for the red hue upon my lips
for your taste buds to savor
with a sweetness brought forth
like the ripening of fruit
slowly to develop through infancy
until ripe on the mother tree
you were worth the long wait

I have only one significant need
during early morn throughout the seasons
while short naps foster a bit of rest
when sleep calls for restful hours
I pray for you to possess
the now familiar pillow
that is imprinted with indelible ink
your name in the middle
my red lips by its side
forever more at the end

I have only this
may you give me memories
that are mine and mine alone
