Love's Dream

by w.j.debi

Romantic dreams have set my heart afire
And sent my spirit soaring to the skies.
That look of mischief sparkling in your eyes,
Your tender touch--it makes my heart aspire
To answer with both passion and desire.
Your whispers that entice me with surprise,
I'll answer with my sweet seductive sighs.
Such thoughts of love and longing you inspire.

But when I wake, these dreams evaporate.
I place my head within my hands and weep.
The ancient tales say love's forevermore,
Yet unrequited love is now my fate.
So deep within my heart this love I'll keep
Until I find the one I so adore.

An Italian sonnet is 14 lines long and written in iambic pentameter.
The octet (first eight lines) use a rhyme scheme of abbaabba and the closing sextet (last six lines) can use a variety of rhyming schemes, I chose cdecde.
There is a turn in the ninth line, but an Italian sonnet does not have a closing couplet.
