Phone Call to Heaven

by Just2Write

Hello, Jesus -- is my daddy there?
They say he went to heaven -
have you seen him anywhere?
I know that he likes fishing
so perhaps he's by the lake.
He often walked the woodland trails
and I know which one he'd take.

It would look like what we used to walk
when I was only small;
when he said though nature's wonderful,
he loved me most of all.

I hear that heaven's beautiful
and it's not for me to say -
but, I miss him and I long to know
just why he went away.
I want so much to tell him
I don't want to be alone -
He's my daddy and I love him.
Can you call him to the phone?

My father died from cancer when I was 16. It has been many, many years since that time. There was so much left unsaid between us - I was a teen, and horrid. I wished that on this Father's Day, the little girl I used to be could call him on the phone.

This is one of my favourite family album photos of him in 1941, long before I was born. I don't have any photos of him from my childhood. He was always the one behind the camera.
