Glass Fishing Floats

by Hawaiian Mermaid

Glass Fishing Floats

You began as molten glass
Blown with an artist's breath
Extreme heat could bring you
Life or a shattered death

Created to lift a heavy load
Fishing nets full of slimy fish
Delivered to some distant shore
Served on a fancy gourmet dish

You escaped from the net
That you were tethered to
Then you were free to float
upon the ocean blue

On currents, you rocked and rolled
Without a care on shifting sea
The adventures you could share
If you could only speak to me

Your pitted precious core
Shows fragments of distant sands
Your soft etched colors seem to be
Artwork of the Master's hands

The barnacles sure love you
They attached to take a ride
Did you enjoy the company
While bobbing on the tide

How many tropical lands
Have you rested in their bay
Only for the daily tides
Again taking you away

How did you just happen
To land upon my shore
Guess it's my special treat
Your presence to adore

Oh the joy of finding a antique glass fishing float while beachcombing.
