God comes to Noah and tells him to build a boat
A chapter in the book Noah
Noah part 1 - Noah Builds an Ark
by Roxanna Andrews
God came to earth and looked around. Evil and debauchery were all He found. "Why did I make man? I'm sorry that I did. Now mankind from the face of the earth I must rid." But a righteous man he found Noah to be, so it was Noah He next went to see. He told him how evil the world had become, how he, Noah, was the total sum, of righteous men on the earth. And He felt that he was well worth, the trouble He would go through to save just one family. He told Noah to listen quite carefully. "I want you to build a very big boat, one that will hold much and still float. For I shall flood the earth, all but you shall die, the evil I have found is the reason why. Make it four hundred and fifty feet long, no, I haven't gotten the measurements wrong. It shall be seventy five feet wide. Within its bowels many animals shall hide. The height of it shall be forty-five feet, the top level is where you and your family will live and eat. To build it, you will have just fifty five years, so I suggest that you kick it into gear." So for all those years Noah and sons built an ark, as the days grew increasingly dark. His neighbors jeered, "What a fool you are! The waters much so far! You crazy old man!" And that's how the commentary ran. Day after day, he worked on the ark, and all his neighbors thought it quite a lark. Fifty-five to Seventy years, Noah put up with town's peoples' jeers. He patiently told them it would be wise to repent, before God decided His anger to vent. But just more insults at him were hurled. No one believed Noah, no not a one. Man's days on earth were almost done. |

A few years ago I did a series of poems based on Bible stories. It was challenging and fun.
Long before Joseph or Moses, God commanded a man named Noah to build a very large boat, an ark.
He had been down visiting the earth and found it so full of evil, murder and lawlessness that He decided to destroy it and start over. This is the only time in the Bible God says he is sorry he made man.
Noah was the only man who still believed in and worshiped God so he was chosen for the job.
Some bible math shows that it took Noah between 55-75 years to build the ark and every day he told the people what was coming. None believed him.
Up until this time it hadn't rained on the earth, so that may be one reason the people didn't believe him. Dew came up from the ground and watered the earth, the world was still a pretty perfect place with a pristine environment. The lakes, rivers, ponds didn't evaporate like they do today, rain wasn't needed. So I'm sure it seemed quite impossible for the earth to flood. But why would Noah build an ark out of the blue? And one so huge?
Sadly they found out the hard way that neither Noah nor God were kidding.
The artwork I included shows the different levels of the ark. Whether it was really this way or not I don't know, but it makes sense. The top level was for Noah and his family to live, the second level storage and the last was for the animals.Genesis 6
