He suffered and die, but rose again!

Christ Has Risen

by Roxanna Andrews

Do we know what was suffered on the cross?
The pain, the agony, the terrible loss?

For this was a King who gave up a throne,
to die for those, who Him, had not known.

What was it like to be hated for good?
For doing miracles that only God could?

For speaking the truths men didn't want to hear.
It drove them to kill this One that they feared,

for pointing out hypocrisy, the religious leaders' gift,
their thoughts and hearts He was able to sift.

With lies and false testimony they were able to convict,
though witnesses stories often contradict.

No death penalty had they under Roman law,
they dragged Him before Pilate, but no sin he saw.

He washed his hands of this Man's death,
that the crowd demanded with every breath.

Beaten and treated with scorn,
upon His head a crown of thorns.

Led to a hill called The Skull,
nailed to a cross with spikes thick and dull.

Can you feel this God/man's agony?
He suffered great for you and me.

Taking upon Himself every sin,
so you and I could live again.

Could death hold one such as this?
Whose life had caused the world to shift?

NO!

For angels rolled away His tomb stone.
Now He sits once more upon His throne.

Christ the King has Risen!
Conquering death and sin.

Recognized

I wrote this long ago but like to rerun it at Easter.

We really have no idea what a horrible death this was. Many theologians today think He was nailed to a living tree. With his back in shreds, for they beat Him with a cat of nine tails, which means the skin was ripped from his back, what would rough bark feel like. The person was often beaten to the point that skin and muscle were rip away and internal organs could be seen. They would only give them 99 lashes as they thought no none could live if given 100. A platform is built for those crucified to stand on, this is to prolong their death and agony. They use it to push themselves up to breath. As they hang the lungs and diaphragm are compressed. They push themselves up to get a breath until they are to exhausted to do so and they suffocate. If it took too long for them to die the soldiers would often break their legs so they couldn't push off the platform. Christ's legs were not broken, but a spear pierced His side, blood and water came out. They determined He was already dead. But only for 3 days. Only God could conquer death and rise again.
