Minefield

'More Opinions, Politics & Comments' ~ #1-401-B-C

Yes, internet dating can work,
if you're savvy and not a jerk.
A minefield of paradoxes,
full of weirdoes, but some foxes.
Promote yourself as a great deal,
someone everyone else wants to steal.

Appear confident, but not vain;
sensitive to another's pain.
On the other hand, be cheerful.
Not paranoid, sad or tearful.
Having a laugh is always good.
Can't tell jokes to a block of wood.

Now that you've written your profile,
post a photo sure to beguile.
Clothing on please, not partly nude.
No pictures that are rude or crude.
Banter with suitors back and forth.
Take your time so they know your worth.

Omit the players not sincere,
who want to steal all you hold dear.
Do background checks for prior crime.
Make sure they phone you on their dime.
Fall in love before falling free.
It's quality, not quantity.

First date goes Dutch, but then he pays.
Disease testing before the lays.
Be forewarned by going forward.
On-line love is not for cowards.

Can internet romance work? contest entry

My opinion on on-line dating. I know several couples who have met and married. Sometimes on-line dating doesn't work out. This poem is from a contest a couple of years ago. Thank you for reading my poetry.
