Memories of an Alzheimers sufferer

I Woke Up This Morning

by Sandra Stoner-Mitchell

I woke up this morning...Yes I did
No, it wasn't a dream...I'm just a kid,
I look for my Mum...Will she be long?
And just who are you? No! You are wrong!
I'm just a kid...I think you are mad!
You can't be my Son...Why do you look sad?

I woke up this morning...I think it was eight?
I'm off to work now...I mustn't be late!
What do you mean...It's time for my pill!
Just who are you? I'm really not ill!
I have to be going...No, I really can't stay.
I must go to work...Get out of my way!

What are you saying?...I am NOT your mum
I'm only a kid...Now look what you've done!
I woke up this morning...I got out of bed.
I think it is bedtime, what was that you said?
Do I know you? Your name is John?
You think I'm your mother...I think you are wrong!
