There's a dragon on my bunk bed and he wants to spend the night.
Says we'll swap some scary tales to fill our heads with fright.

A dragon on my bunk bed! Will my parents say, "Okay"?
Or will I have to hide him underneath my bed all day?

I'm thinking he's a secret I never should disclose;
Some people think of dragons as monstrous flying foes.

We'll tiptoe through the quiet house into the dark of night
Then eat s'mores and cheese hotdogs by dragon firelight.

We'll slumber under starlit skies and dream courageous dreams
Of kids and dragons side by side in superhero teams.

Into his cavernous lair we'll glide, my dragon friend and I
Our thirst for new adventures, we're sure to satisfy.

Back home before the world awakes, we'll sneak into my room,
Having saved the planet from all evil-doer's doom.

Camouflaged by books and toys stacked atop my quilt,
The dragon snuggles underneath the cover blind I built.

He starts to giggle and so do I. His laughter is infectious.
Mom opens up the door, peers in, and looks a bit suspicious.

"Just thinking 'bout a joke I heard," I tell her with a smile.
'I'll get up now,get dressed,and I will see you in awhile."

She nods and smiles; the door is closed. I hop down to the floor,
Pull off my PJs, don my clothes, grab back pack, books and more.

"Whew! We fooled her! Wait right here. I'll eat a yummy meal,
And slip some breakfast back to you. Be quiet now, don't squeal.

"After eating, sneak away while mom takes me to school.
Then come back here on Saturday, when fun will be the rule."
