The Box

Come look inside this box with me
at pictures old but dear.
This box is filled with memories,

They have to be my family,
but I don't have a clue,
just who they are, or when they lived.
I don't know what to do.

A tall man standing proudly with
the Bible in his hand.
Beside him in a rocking chair,
his lady, dressed so grand.

I'd like to know just who they are,
a name, a place, a year,
to help me document the past
and maybe make it clear,

just who they are and when they lived,
or even when they died.
I know they had their hardships then
so how did they survive?

I need to find the spot to place
them in our family tree.
I need to learn just who they are
or that can never be.

Why didn't someone add a name,
is that so hard to do?
A date, a place, would be so nice,
at least I'd have a clue.

This image that is locked in time,
a face from long ago,
will have to stay here in the box
until a name I know.
