We must know Him to become like Him.

In The Stillness You'll Find Me

by Janie King

Everyone, at some time searches for love. Jesus tells us, "He who has my commandments and keeps them, it is he who loves me. And He who loves me will be loved by my Father, and I will love him and manifest myself to him." (John 14:21 NKJV). There is no greater love than the love of God. Yet we fail to grasp the magnificence of this promise.

Satan is the father of lies. He begins by tormenting us as Christians, pointing out the many times we fail to Keep God's commandments. He wants us to feel that God is always mad at us because of our failures and weaknesses. God is mad He's madly in love with us! He sent His only Son, Jesus, to die for us so we might have eternal life.

In spite of our mistakes, we are still granted the privilege to come boldly before the Throne of God. He meets our needs as we continue to grow spiritually. Even when we make mistakes, we can repent and have God come to our rescue. God grants His children mercy when we do things out of our ignorance. He loves us in spite of the baggage we bring into our relationship with Him.

We are all at difference stages of growth in our walk with God. The Holy Spirit supplies us with the strength, grace and spiritual ability to continue our journey through life. He longs for us to learn how to let our spirit become quiet before Him, so we might hear Him speak to us.

Our favor with God is based on our dependence on and confidence in Christ alone. God knows our weaknesses. He remembers that we are but dust. (Psalm 103:14 KJV). We put more pressures on ourselves than God would ever put on us. He doesn't shove us; He leads us. He makes a way where there is no way.

Did you ever decide to fix your parents a special breakfast when you were really young? It took a lot of effort but you succeeded. It was important to you because you wanted them to know how much you loved them. Do you remember what the kitchen looked like when you were done? Somehow, that mess miraculously disappeared and you didn't get in trouble for making it.

How many messes has God cleaned up for us? How many times has He protected us from seeing how big a mess we really made? We serve Him because we love Him. He understands we're not going to manifest perfection every day. He understands we have weaknesses and faults; He knows better than anyone that it will take time to grow up in Him. There will be a day He won't have to clean up so many messes for us.

Lord, help us to place our trust and confidence in Your love and mercy so that, as Your Word tells us in Psalm 46:10, we may be still and know that You are God. Help us to place our hand in Yours and be still before You, so that You might speak to our souls. Help us to know that once we have committed our life to You, we can rest in Your assurance that You will always be there for us. Help us to grasp that You are a God of mercy and compassion. Help us to understand that when you correct us, it is because of Your love for us. In Jesus' name I pray. Amen

Closing Thought

It is in our quiet time that we will find Him and know that He is God. We must know who He is so that we might become like Him.

This is the last chapter, done in a devotional format, from my book "Glimpses of Truth." I do pray the pieces have touched you in a special way. God bless.
