He stands between us and the enemy of our soul

The Roar of the Lion

by Janie King

The only place most of us will see a lion is in the zoo. I remember when my parents took us to the zoo for the first time. I ran the length of the lion's cage. Suddenly it opened its mouth and let out a roar that sent me running to my Dad for protection.

Shortly after that, I was told the story about Daniel being put into the lions' den. I was afraid for Daniel because a lion had scared me. But Daniel was alive the next morning! He shouted out, "My God sent His angel and shut the lions' mouths, so that they have not hurt me, because I was found innocent before Him..." (Daniel 6:22 NKJV). The angel of God protected Daniel, just like my Dad had protected me, even though I was never in the real danger Daniel faced.

Peter warns us, "Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil walks about like a roaring lion, seeking whom he may devour." (I Peter 5:8 NKJV). Satan has plotted to destroy God's creation ever since he was thrown out of heaven.

What in our life makes us vulnerable to Satan? What will keep us from God's protection? SIN. Sin will kill us just as sure as an encounter with a lion. It is Jesus that stands between us and sin. God sent Him to rescue us!

Jesus is more powerful than the enemy that threatens us. His suffering, death and Resurrection shuts the mouth of the roaring lion, the devil. He defeated him on Calvary. No matter what Satan plans, no matter what our sinful nature tempts us to do on this earth, they don't have the power to hurt us eternally when we have accepted Jesus as our Savior. As long as we are giving God our best, we will come before Him without a scratch, because through Jesus, we are "found innocent before Him." (Daniel 6:22 NKJV).

Did you wake up to find Satan roaring into your mind a destructive thought? God desires to protect us from the roaring of the enemy and his evil plans. We must make sure our lives are committed to the King of Kings, then we will have nothing to fear. Our Savior has triumphed over our enemy, the devil. The enemy was destroyed on Calvary!

Lord, help us to understand that no matter how loud Satan roars at us, we have You standing between us and him. Help us to understand that You loved us enough to let Your Son, Jesus, die for us, so that You would be free to protect us as Your children. May we trust You, knowing that it is Your desire to protect us and keep us safe from the enemy of our souls. In Jesus' name I pray. Amen

Closing Thought

Are you terrified by the roaring threats Satan is sending your way today? Run into the arms of your Heavenly Father, for He will protect you in a way no one else can!
