The words we speak has the power to bring life or

God's Mouthpiece

by Janie King

The words we speak originate in our mind as "thoughts." There is definitely a good and bad side to each of us. I'll refer to the "good" in us as God-inspired. When I refer to the "bad" or ugly side of our nature, I am referring to what Satan inspires us to do.

God has allowed us the privilege of choosing to do the right or wrong thing. He didn't want to have a bunch of robots worshiping Him, so He gave us the ability to accept or refuse Him and His ways. We will serve Him because it's the desire of our heart. You realize God has placed a lot of trust in the human race. He's also placed a challenge in our lives that will last our lifetime.

By nature we are independent and want to think our own thoughts. We want to be in control. We're right, and we want everyone to know it! It's only when we allow the Holy Spirit to take control of our hearts and our thinking, that He will lead us to act our God's desires in spite of the struggles we may face.

One such struggle comes from the words we speak. We decide what we allow to come out of our mouth. Proverbs 8:21 says, "Death and life are in the power of the tongue, and those who love it will eat its fruit."(NKJV) The first time the reality of this Scripture penetrated my heart, I was overwhelmed. It's awesome to grasp the seriousness of what God is telling us.

I have the power to bless those around me - just by the words I let come out of my mouth. I have the power to destroy, harm, cause hurt, cripple, and break a heart by the words I speak. I'm sure you have come to the conclusion that I have. We must guard the words we let come from our mouth. (Proverbs 13:3; Ecclesiastes 3:7). Not only can we hurt others but we can hurt ourselves as well.

Lord, we surrender our hearts, minds, and mouths to You. We ask that You help us become fully aware of the words we speak. Help us to not say anything that hurts someone else, just because we speak idle words. Help us to become your "mouthpiece." In Jesus' name I pray. Amen

Closing Thought

Not only do we determine our destiny, Heaven or Hell, but we also determine how we will influence others in their understanding of God. We are often the first epistle the outside world reads. (II Corinthians 3:2-3) Our decisions and choice not only affect our life but also the lives of those around us. We have an awesome responsibility before God to yield our will and our life to Him.

All of these pieces are things God was teaching me and I found myself putting them down on paper to share with others. Please remember this is not religious. This is about my relationship, our relationship, with God. God bless.
