Call Me When You Get There

by Katiesherrill

-Verse 1-
A nervous father hands his daughter the keys.
Knowing she won't be far doesn't set his mind at ease.
Daddy's little girl is heading off to school
She doesn't want him going 'cuz that isn't cool.

-Pre Chorus-
He looks her in the eyes before he lets her go
He'll miss her terrible but he doesn't let it show
He says, "Call me when you get there."

-Chorus-
Honey, you won't be far, but set my mind at ease,
As soon as you arrive, will you remember me please.
Before you start your fun, think of me in this chair.
It's a simple request; please call me when you get there.

-Verse 2-
He can't believe his baby's is getting married today
The man of her dreams will carry her away.
She'll start a family have children of her own
She's still his baby even though she is grown

-Pre Chorus-
He looks her in the eyes, before he lets her go
He'll miss her terrible but he doesn't let it show
He says, "Call me when you get there."

-Chorus-
Honey, you won't be far, but set my mind at ease,
As soon as you arrive, will you remember me please.
Before you start your fun, think of me in this chair.
It's a simple request; please call me when you get there.

-Bridge-
And as he lets her go
He hopes he's raised her right.
He trusts her to God's care
As he thinks of her that night.
Takes a deep breath as he sits into his chair.
Knowing God loves her even more than he could dare.

-Chorus 2-
God, she won't be far but set my mind at ease,
As soon as she arrives help her remember me please.
Before she starts her fun, help her think of me in this chair.
It's a simple request, please call me when you get there.

-Verse 3-
She looks at her daddy as he breaths his last breaths
She doesn't know how she'll ever deal with his death
Daddy's little girl sit's with tears in her eyes
Holding his hand as the sun begins to rise

-Pre Chorus 2-
She looks him in the eyes before she lets him go
She'll miss him terrible but she doesn't let it show
She says, "Call me when you get there."

-Chorus 3-
Daddy, you won't be far, but set my mind at ease.
As soon as you arrive, will you remember me please.
Before you start your fun, think of me in your chair.
It's a simple request; please call me when you get there.

Recognized

This song just came to me after my father's death. I wanted so badly to know he got to heaven okay. It made me remember the times my parents would tell me to call when I got somewhere so they knew I was okay.
