a soldier's hope
Carrier Pigeon
by victortouche
Valiant heart
dart about the skies Avoid every aim Buffeted by wind...explosion Abiding no technology Save me fellow life within my hands I hold the bird so differently now so reverently Life's surging vitality imprinted upon my brow My life beats within its breast My hands feel its fragility My hope quivers with its homeward restlessness I have not appreciated the spark of life enough But my lesson will soon commence Go now Go my fellow stout winged warrior And save me from my fate |

Can you imagine a soldier's feelings as he holds then lets fly his only hope for salvation in battle. I think we would all hold this pigeon with a deepening awe transmitted through our hands as they tremble with the bird.
