Hey, little girl, don't be afraid. You can't see me, but you can hear me, and that's what matters. I have a message from the future. You're going to want hear this because it's good news. Don't worry so much. You aren't going to die young from some horrible disease. Your parents and grandparent will be around to see you grow up.
Don't fret about your dad yelling threats at your mom. He's all talk and loud noise. He'd never hurt anyone. Believe it or not, they're going to grow old together. Your life will always be filled with love. There is someone out there for you who will love you and take care of you.
You need to toughen up a bit. All stories don't have happy endings, but that's life. Remember the Pollyanna story? Even when things were bad, she always found something good to be happy about. It's not a bad way to live.
I'm not going to tell you all your future. Let it be a surprise. Life's more fun that way. I'm just going to give you some tips on avoiding a few snags along the way.
You need to improve your eating habits. Too much peanut butter and all those sweets will catch up with you by the time you're forty. You've inherited the fat gene, so if you don't watch out, you'll be fighting those excess pounds for a lot of your life. Get in an exercise program early, and stick with it. Learn to dance even though your mother doesn't approve. It's fun and good exercise. Brush your teeth and floss. If you don't start taking care of them now, they won't last you a lifetime.
Oh, and don't worry about those piano lessons your mom insists on you taking. God gave you a lot of talent, but that's not one of them. Do what makes you the happiest, like art and writing. You've even got some acting talent, and one of these days you're going to enjoy speaking in public.
Your dad has a lot of prejudice. It's the way he was brought up. You don't have to be that way. God created all kinds of people, and he loves them all. Respect everyone with whom you come in contact. Don't judge others. Give them the benefit of doubt until they prove you wrong. You don't know what their journey is like so be kind.
Choose your friends carefully, and don't allow others to dictate your actions. You don't have to be like your friends. Be yourself. You are unique and they are as well. It's O.K. to be different.
Be careful about what you say. Don't spill your guts to everyone you meet, because sometimes your words will be used against you. Don't talk about anyone behind his back, because those words will get back to that person twisted in a way you won't recognize. You have a tendency to be vindictive. Let it go. Pick your battles carefully.
Don't ever be intimidated by anyone. There is no one better than you are. You are God's child. He loves you and He will always be there for you. You will have creative jobs that you will enjoy, but never discuss your salary with your coworkers. There is a lot of jealously in the work place. There are times you will be hurt or discouraged, but don't fret because things will work out for the best in the end.
Someday you will be a mother. Don't think you will have all the answers because no one does. Children don't come with instructions. No two are alike. Relax and don't let motherhood overwhelm you. You and your children will learn together. Shower them with love, but teach them responsibility.
You will always have enough: enough love in your life to keep you happy. enough pain to make you compassionate, enough problems to keep your mind working, enough success to build your self-esteem, enough failures to keep you humble, and enough friends to keep you company on your journey. Always have a thankful heart. Give thanks for the blessings as well the trials because they are blessing in disguise. Our trials are the tools which help us grow stronger.
Enjoy your life to the fullest. It is the adventure of a lifetime. We'll meet again one of these days. I'm counting on you, kid. Make me proud.
