Tribute to Frank Sinatra & Ava Gardner

A fool to love her

by Eternal Muse

For he was clearly a besotted fool
to fall for her as madly as he did --
The goddess played her life without the rules;
With her, each man felt like a smitten kid.

Her stunning beauty Frank would sing out loud,
her silky hair and velvet eyes, her grace;
Of his majestic wife he was so proud -
Who wouldn't? Looking at her godlike face.

She thought, with Frank, it was forever now,
The crooner thought the same, they made a vow.
Capricious cupids granted them six years
which were baptized by fame and happy tears.

The title references Frank's song "I am fool to want you", dedicated to the greatest love of his life, Ava Gardner. To marry Ava, Frank left his wife Nancy and their three children. Ava was one of the most beautiful women in Hollywood and was often called "the femme fatale" for some of her roles.

Frank and Ava married in 1951 and, after numerous reconciliations, finally divorced in 1957. But for the rest of their lives they remained each other's greatest love.
