Below is the Pastiche Leigh Hunt  inspired me to write,
 from his/her poem   "Abou Ben Adhem"
subject is suppose to be different ....mine is a spirit entering heaven

The Spirit of Balu 


Awakened by the after light that only death can bring,
Balu's soul stood by heaven's door and heard its choir sing.
Where spirits find their passage in, he saw a book of gold,
So lovingly wrapped in the arms, St. Peter'd soon unfold.

"Forgive me if I'm hesitant, but am I truly dead?"~
"What lies for me beyond the door?"~ Balu's voice trembled dread.
 "Thy kingdom lies before you now," Saint Peter warmly said,
"For God has blessed you with his love to share his holy breadth." 

"This book reveals one's time on earth and everything they've been
It shows the nature of the heart allowing heaven in."
St. Peter leaned to show his page, Balu said, "Please no! Wait!",
For something stirred inside himself that he could not debate.
 
"Father please forgive my doubt. I do not need to see,
For any script that thou has writ was never meant for me. 
I have lived within a life that woes sometimes beset,
But always have believed in you and never spawned regret." 

"I will not compromise belief, for you have blessed my soul.
I cherish every step I took to reach this lifelong goal." 
 
Within the hush of Angel wings, the gates of heaven swayed,
Surrounding him in pristine light because of what he prayed.
His prayer had touched the ears of God and when Balu was through, 
God himself came out to greet
 The spirit of Balu.

Abou Ben Adhem


 Abou Ben Adhem(may his tribe increase)
Awoke one night from a deep dream of peace,
And saw, within the moonlight of his room,
Making it rich, and like a lily in bloom,
An angel writing in a book of gold:~
Exceeding peace had made Ben Adhem bold,
And to the presence in the room he said,
"What writest thou?" The vision rais'd its head,
And with a look made of all sweet accord,
Answer'd, "The names of those who love the Lord."
"And is mine one?" said Abou."Nay not so,"
Replied the Angel. Abou spoke more low,
But cheerily still; and said, "I pray thee then,
Write me as one who loves his fellow men."
The angel wrote, and vanish'd. The next night
It came again with a great wakening light,
And showed the names whom love of God has blest
And lo! Ben Adhem's name led all the rest.
