Looking For A Playoff Win

by ~Dovey

Nanooks vs. Mavericks (March 8. 2008)
Alaska Nanook hockey team, looking for a playoff win,
Blue and Gold clad fans, tune their radios to listen in.
Campbell leads the team, in search of victory,
Defeat will end the season, something no one wants to see.
Everyone looks to Rogers to have a stellar game,
Fairbanks' own exhibits heart, his collegiate claim to fame.
Goal scored by Novotney gives the Nanooks an early lead.
Hohl shoots the go ahead goal, his aggressive play is key!
Icing calls and penalties, we're on the power play,
Jones adds to the lineup, he's earned his place today.
Knelsen keeps the momentum as he puts one between the pipes,
Landon Novotney with two assists, he's on his game tonight.
Much to the dismay of U-N-O, Eckford skates to four and one,
Never a dull moment in this hockey game, the best was still to come.
Omaha Nebraska stepped up their play, putting two more in the net,
Penalties and power plays, this game wasn't over yet.
Quick stick handling and skating had the fans on the edge of their seats,
Rogers' skill and brilliant saves spared us from defeat!
Shortening the bench and discipline brought us much success,
Tonight Coach Delcastillo proved that he knows best.
Unsung hero, Naglich, was the star with three assists,
Voice of the Nanooks announced the win, our cheers were mixed with his!
With one last goal in an empty net, Klassen sealed their fate.
X-rays on Muspratt and Lawrence have kept them from their skates.
You made all of Fairbanks proud tonight, a win is always nice!
Zamboni enters the arena to ready tomorrow's ice.

I would like to thank the Alaska Nanook Hockey Team for being my inspiration! I was listening to the game on the radio and toying with the Abcedarian Poetry style. It was both a challenge and fun! What a game! :)

It is the first round of the CCHA Playoffs. U-N-O won the first game, and tonight, U-A-F won the second. Tomorrow night is the tie breaking game! Gooooo Nanooks!

Update: We lost the last game in this series and the season drew to an end... it was a great time however, and another excellent game that went into triple overtime!)
