Dearest Emily,

are so
many things
that I could send
today as you celebrate this birthday:
a plant, a beautiful bowl, some white wine.
But these things mean
so little
compared
to
the
wishes
I hold for
your year ahead:
May the coming days be filled with laughter.
May you always have time to take long walks.
May each new day
dawn with the
promise
of joy
and
love
for your
family
and all your friends.
May the water's edge bring you contentment.
May you find beauty in the simplest things:
blazing sunsets,
soft breezes,
boat rides,
time
spent
alone
or with friends
you meet along
the way. May there be opportunities
to travel, see new sights, and try great food.
May you never
be lonely
or sad.
And
if
you should
ever need
a cup of tea,
a friendly chat, or just moments to share,
