Paid in full.
The Price
by Douglas Goff

The graying man looked at the numerous certificates and medals adorning his wall. All earned. None expected. A lifetime dedicated to service.
His gaze fell upon his mechanical wheelchair, punctuated by the empty space below his kneecaps. Oddly, if he closed his eyes, he could sometimes still feel his missing limbs.
Worst yet, were the horrors of war that often invaded his plagued mind. He had paid a price.
Worth it? Yes. Freedom always is.

The character is fictional but the story is not. It has played out across the landscape
of America for the past 250 years. Just a gentle reminder that the price was paid by many.
My brother served in Desert Storm/Desert Shield and suffers from PTSD.
A great organization, if you have the mind to help, is the Wounded Warrior Project. They are easily found online and do a lot of good work for veterans.
