A sensory poem about complexity of nostalgia with nature

Infused With You

by Ella Brooke Marzonie

My senses heightened breathing you in.

I coax the tea leaves to bleed you out.

Palatable memories fill my nose
as plumes of you steam my lips.

I stumbled upon your aroma,
the warmth of crisp sunshine,
chatty bumblebees rustling raw honey,

You brought flora and fauna back into my life.

I admire you for trudging
through bushels of sweet, plump wild berries.
Nature painted you
in succulent pinks, purples, and blues.

I felt the cool sting of your peppermint
bite down and around my throat,
waking me with a jolt
into a daydream of you.

I douse my mouth with your flavor
to put out the rising fire.

I commit the recipe of you to memory,
encrypt and code it so it might stay mine.

I’ll pour you in a mug every morning
I will store ingredients in jars for rainy days.

Equally toxic and intoxicating,

dangerously comforting,

To know

I can brew you like a potion.
