Weird Happenings
Walk in the Park
by Cecilia A Heiskary

One day I decided to take Kratos to a new park for a walk. I had driven by it several times and it seemed like a nice place to explore. I had heard whispers of some strange things happening there, but I blew them off as if they were nothing. My dog Kratos weighs a 100 pounds, so I wasn’t worried about anything. I had him to protect me.
The day was bright and sunny with a perfect blue sky. Perfect day for a leisurely stroll with the dog. We arrived at the park. I took Kratos out of the car, and off we went. There were several different paths, so we took the one ahead of us.
There was a gentle breeze. The leaves were rustling in the tree tops. You could hear little animals scurrying through the underbrush, and the birds singing in the trees.
I started to feel uneasy like something was watching me. I looked around and didn’t see anything unusual, so we kept walking. About a mile into the walk that nagging feeling started to get more persistent. I thought I was psyching myself out, because of some of the rumors. Kratos didn’t seem to sense anything, so I shook off the feeling and continued walking.
Another mile in Kratos started growling softly. That feeling was back, and now he was alerting to something. We were about two miles in at this point. I realized there wasn’t a sound. Total silence. No birds, and no wind. I had that sensation I was being watched again. Kratos growling, it made the hair stand up on my neck.
I could see a tunnel in the distance. It had green ivy covering it. Had I not been paying attention I would have missed it. I tried to get Kratos to move, but he wasn’t budging. You don’t make a 100 lb. dog move if he doesn’t want to.
I started to hear eerie sounds coming from the direction of the tunnel. It sounded like something moaning, and then I heard footsteps. What the heck was going on. I was starting to get really scared. Kratos' growling got deeper, and the hair on his back hackled up. I said, “Come on Kratos we have to go.” He continued to growl, but he wasn’t moving. I looked all around, we were all alone deep down this trail.
Normally Kratos is a coward and would run, but for some reason he wasn’t going anywhere. The tunnel was dark. I thought I could see pairs of red glowing eyes. When I saw that I said, “To heck with this. Kratos lets go,” and he started barking. I let go of his leash and ran like hell. It appeared the footsteps were getting closer. I kept running. I could hear Kratos finally running behind me. All of a sudden Kratos ran between my legs. I went sprawling down the path. I hit that ground so hard I saw stars. Kratos was licking my face and still looking behind us. I laid there trying to collect my wits. Kratos started barking and growling. I hurt like hell, but I got up and looked behind me. I saw this thing that didn’t look human chasing us. I took off running. This time Kratos was ahead of me. I was so scared I thought I was going to pee my pants.
We kept running until we got to the car. My hands were shaking as I tried starting the car. I looked in my rearview mirror, and saw this thing still coming at us. I put the car into drive and peeled out of the parking lot.
Next time I need to listen to the rumors. That’s one park we won’t be going back to.
