The Spice of Life

by pome lover

Today I was at the grocery store, again, because I am now la chef for Mother’s Day.

My daughter is a sweet, precious daughter, and I love her to pieces, but there are lots of things she doesn’t like to eat, unfortunately, which rules out lots of really yummy meals. She doesn’t like any sea food (and she’s not allergic; just doesn’t like any of it – hard to believe.) No lamb or pork, either, which leaves beef and poultry. And as I am just about totally chickened out, beef, it is.

I was trying to think of something special but easy and non-time consuming, and I hadn’t had a fillet mignon in years, so, the butcher picked out four nice ones, wrapped them up, slapped on the price, and almost gave me a heart attack.

However, I sallied forth and got the rest of the meal, some wines, and  decided that some other items on the list could wait until another day.

As I was getting ready to leave the store, there was this man in front of me, and as he walked out the automatic opening doors, he waved his arms like he’d made them open and looked back at me, grinned, and bowed. I laughed and then he went through the second set of doors and repeated his pseudo magical door opening for me, and I said, “wow, you did it again,” and he bowed and laughed and went on his way.

Now, you know, that was fun! Talk about a delightful way to end the monotonous job of grocery shopping. It still makes me smile to think about it and picture his grinning face. I bet he was a devilish little boy, growing up. What a simple, silly way to give someone pleasure.

I loved it!
