everyone should sit on a fire-escape and watch

Last Night

by Lulube

Last night I sat on a fire-escape
downtown
Outside a very old building, painted
brown
Staring, pondering lightly
               'bout you and me
And all the time
we spent together
that's gone

I just never thought you'd go
To a place I don't even know
To a place where drifter's gather 'round
I'll never know the name of this town

I watched a parade of colored cars
go by
Loud honking, while other's couldn't, wouldn't
try
Never getting anywhere
                  But should I care
While it's my heart that's
hurting so deep
inside

I just never thought you'd go
To a place I don't even know
To a place where drifter's gather 'round
I'll never know the name of this town

As the sun was rising there was a
bussle
Figures fiercely, pushing, some in a
shuffle
Where could they possibly go
                   Some move so slow
Then they all disappeared
the same way
you did
