a 100-word story
Basketball
by Bill Schott
Bart's wife screamed at the television as she watched Louisville lose to Creighton. The March Madness loss sent her schemes to beat her brother and brother-in-law to the showers. It was loss after loss all day long on that first day of games. Kansas's loss and Purdue's win was the last straw.
She leapt from her chair, as though launched, and headed straight to the kitchen. She opened the cutlery drawer and pulled out a long pastry knife.
Bart was alarmed when she returned with the knife in one hand and fudge cake in the other.
