A memory
My Last Visit with Grandma
by patcelaw

When I was 12 years old, our family moved away from the farm where we had lived. Our farm was about a quarter of a mile from my grandparents home. So I got to see my grandparents often. But when we moved, we had moved about 120 miles away and so I did not get to see my grandmother or grandfather very often. As a matter of fact, it was the last time I got to see either of them before my grandmother passed away. I remember the day well.
My cousin, Sandra at fourteen was a year younger than me. She lived a quarter of a mile from our grandparents home.
Grandmother took Sandra and me into the kitchen where she was going to make cookies for us. The cookies were basically a sugar cookie recipe, but she added a little ingredient that made it quite interesting. She cut up Baby Ruth candy bars and put them in the cookie dough. I remember those cookies so well
As we sat at the table, the three of us, grandma, Sandra and I. As we ate those delicious cookies, each of us had a glass of farm fresh milk.
We were looking out the dining room window of grandparents' home. While we were eating the cookies, there was a car that came speeding by the house. It was going at a high rate of speed, and as we looked out the window, the car did a end over end flip. The guy that was driving the car walked away from the car without any injuries. It was a frightening thing for us to see. I will always remember that day.
I loved my grandmother. She was rather strict, but she was a good grandmother.
