As many of you may know, my husband and I have been raising a grandchild, Kylie, since she was 6 weeks old. The mother came and went and would often use her as a way to manipulate us into doing what she wanted. This often put Kylie in dangerous situations around the most vile people.

Recently, mom went to jail and we applied for permanent custody. It was granted today after over a year of waiting.

Wayne and I understand the enormity of the challenge and responsibility of raising a child whose mom is still a family member, and at our age.

Still, it was the right thing to do!
