brings loving joy
Sully the cat
by Jesse James Doty
Six days ago, I adopted a cat named Sully. Sully brings loving joy back into my life. We are the perfect match. His touch and purrs fill my heart with happiness and love.
Sully is two years old. He is predominately black, with mottled brown and gray coloring all over his soft, sleek coat. He has a small patch of white underneath his chin.
When I went to the Humboldt animal shelter, I asked for an adult cat who wasn’t afraid of my wheelchair, wanted to cuddle, and was a lap cat. Megan, the young woman who showed me their adult cats, immediately went to Sully and said he was lovable and friendly.
As soon as she let him out of his cage, Sully marked his territory on my wheelchair, climbed up in my lap, and started purring. His claws were neatly pulled in so all I felt were soft paws kneading me.
Then, Megan started to show me other cats, but Sully wouldn’t let them get near me. He claimed me as his own. I fell in love with him immediately, so there was no doubt, that we chose each other from the beginning.
We have already successfully bonded. As soon as he arrived at my apartment, he made himself at home.
We slept together the very first night. Since that first night, Sully has hidden off and on behind my couch. At times, he is purring right by my side, other times he lies by the scenic window looking out at the rain.
He needs his space away from me and that is okay with me as I need my space as well. Such is the natural rhythm of life between two companions.
Sully's purrs have healing properties, and I am so grateful for his companionship. His presence for me is a lifesaver. He has come at the right time in my life.
I injured my left foot a few weeks ago and it is starting to heal. I exercise every day, and work the muscles in my arms and legs to keep up my strength and endurance.
My knee surgeon agreed it was right to postpone my surgery to May 29th. That way, I will have enough time for my left foot to heal properly.
Meanwhile, me and Sully are getting along famously. I look forward to many long eventful years, with him as a loyal companion.
Sully brings loving joy, peace, and contentment into my life.
