The Grasshopper

Danny heard no sound as a small, yellow-green smudge appeared on the windscreen of his 2018 Toyota hatchback.

 

Did the little grasshopper know he was about to die? Danny wondered. What were his plans for tomorrow, or did he live only in the moment?

 

The wiper blades made a sweep across the glass, removing all traces of the unfortunate insect, as if it had never existed.

 

In the dark, with the rain teeming down, Danny didn’t notice the lights of the oncoming truck were on his side of the road until it was too late. His head hit the glass.
