2025 - Rain, Winds, Noise, Damage
Coldest-Wettest-Windy January
by LittleIrishman
It has of been one of the worst January's so far for weather in 2025.
Apart from standard some sun and warmth here-and-there, being Summer, the weather this January in 2025 has also been overcast, cold, raining, and windy.
On a particular Wednesday, January 15 & 16, 2025, it was storm conditions being windy and raining quite heavily, affecting parts of Sydney, and New South Wales (NSW).
The Bureau of Meteorology (BOM) stated that the early morning of January 16, 2025 had 48.4 mm of rain, and the winds across Sydney and NSW varied over 100km/h to heights of 120km/h.
On this day, the NSW State Emergency Service (SES), similar to the physical side of the local Fire Brigades, had 2,250 callouts, and more than 1,800 incidents over the 24 hour-day period.
Some people's homes were damaged, items scattered across their housing, and even local power-lines were brought down.
It was the years in 2019 and 2020 that had some of the hottest weather on record in Sydney and NSW.
Wikipedia states that one of the worst storms to ever hit Sydney in January was in January 21, 1991. The North Sydney area (Turramurra, Pymble, and surrounding areas) in Sydney/ New South Wales (NSW), had a big storm. There was 60mm (2.36 in) of rain in 30 minutes, winds up to 230km/h, and even more hail the size 7cm. The damage cost was $670 million, and 7,000 houses were affected especially by fallen trees and floods.
According to the Australian Bureau of Meteorology, as of 2023, over the past two financial years, there has been 29 natural disasters in NSW.
The State Library of NSW states that floods, of any natural disaster, have had the most devastating effects in NSW since 1790, causing damage to land and property, and causing nearly 2,500 deaths.
In the northern hemisphere of Australia, Queensland by far has been the most effected state in the country for natural disasters. Queensland has had over 80 natural disasters in the last 10 years, especially cyclones and floods. This has amassed a big total of more than $16 billion in damages for the state.
January is known for being a Summer month (December, January, and February), yet while that are warmth and hot days, there is also this other such weather stated.
However, compared to other countries, Australia has been quite lucky with regards to weather conditions.
Almost similar to weather in other months and seasons (Summer, Autumn, Winter, and Spring), it is like having, four seasons in one day.
It is obvious people prefer Autumn and Spring in general, as Winter (cold) and Summer (hot) are two extremes people may and cannot put-up-with and endure.
Weather people would be having a terrible time constantly and consistently finding and picking such weather.
Some state all this has got to do with, Climate Change, and El-Nino, others state it is about the End-of-the-World, and God’s possible chastisement and purification, on a spiritual and religious level across humanity.
In Australia and all around the world on the news it has been previously and currently shown how there has been some strong storms, floods, fires, earthquakes, and volcanoes.
