Sheila's Shop

by Bill Schott

Sheila recognized her husband’s face among those of the victims. His eyes, closed now, would be hazel, with sparkling blue points. His smile, now robbed of musculature to form, would have caught everyone’s notice.

Broadening her focus, she saw the many faces of her neighborhood friends and city acquaintances. All of these people held close relationships with her, and had one time or another been in her florist’s shop.

Now, after the attack, and with the disease that followed, Sheila worried about the insanity that would surely set in soon.

Fortunately, she had saved the heads of her close friends.
