There's a bulletin out for him
Tough luck, Mr. Grinch
by Begin Again
BEWARE!
There's an all-points bulletin for a green, furry, pot-bellied, pear-shaped, snub-nosed humanoid creature with a cat-like face (a description directly from the mouth of Wikipedia).
Some call him the Grinch, a character from a beloved Christmas tale. His mischievous antics and attempts to steal Christmas joy are well-known, and he's up to his old tricks again.
I haven't had the misfortune of meeting this ill-tempered fellow, nor do I wish to, but let me say, I'm not exactly pleased with him.
While no one can prove the Grinch is behind the current cold snap, most folks — including me —are happy to point a finger his way.
Since arriving in North Carolina, I've been basking in the balmy weather and chuckling at my family in Illinois, who were dusted with their first snow — not enough to drag out shovels, but enough to make Rockford's already hazardous drivers even scarier. So, imagine my surprise (more like indignation) when I woke up to 26 degrees and frost covering the ground. I felt robbed!
Thankfully, my slippers were waiting for my frosty toes, and my granddaughter, Carissa, had the furnace humming and coffee brewing before I even reached the kitchen. Over steaming cappuccino and her "I-don't-want-to-go-to-work" muttering, I kissed her goodbye and sat at the laptop, counting my blessings.
Today, I proudly posted the final chapter of Miracles — approximately 62,300 words wrapped up in thirty days. The satisfaction of finishing a novel is sweet enough to warm any frosty morning! And with ideas already bubbling for what my favorite ghost, Eleanor, might get into next, the Grinch doesn't stand a chance at stealing my joy.
Spending this week with my granddaughter and great-granddaughters is a true blessing. Tonight, we're off to a Pentatonix Christmas concert in Raleigh. Tomorrow, we'll deck the halls with our tree, and I have a surprise — a starter Christmas Village for the girls to start their tradition because they love my village so much. Camryn's Christmas concert is on Tuesday, followed by her basketball game and Keyanna's sweet sixteen on Wednesday. On Thursday, I fly home, but even that can't dampen my spirits. I'll attend my son's movie premiere, "Hydeout" in Chicago, celebrating his incredible hard work on writing the screenplay, directing, and completing the sound and editing.
So, Mr. Grinch, I hate to break it to you — you tried but failed. My happiness is firmly intact. Better luck next time!
