For Debbie D'Arcy

A Lovely Birthday for Debbie D

by Debi Pick Marquette

In England where Debbie was born, a place called Somerset

At seven, moved to Hampshire, where her schooling she would get

And when she graduated, then they would move farther down

She loves living in Swansea, Wales, the ugly lovely town*

The famous Dylan Thomas birth place, that is where they’d move

Three years of school for teacher; school teaching, she'd not approve

So she would teach adults with learning disabilities

Probation officer training, a job likely to please

She worked career 25 years, but retired in advance

So they could spend more time in other home in SW France

She's married to her husband, Chris, it's been 44 years

With son, Robin, and daughter, Kate, more happiness than tears

'They went six years to Florida for Christmas on the coast

I left the best for last; for her grandkids now she can boast

Her grandson, Oak is five years old and sister, Margot's two

If not for those precious grandkids, whatever would she do

For Debbie's birthday party; some invites we’ll have to shout

‘Cause we'll invite all of the legends that she writes about

Some are alive and some are dead, and some are in between

What better time to invite ghosts than right at Halloween

You've been with us almost two years; you fascinate us gal

And Debbie, you've made many friends; you truly are a pal

After we wish the Happiest Birthday, you’ll need a break

We send our love, bottle of gin, and your own birthday cake : )

"An ugly, lovely town...crawling, sprawling at the side of a long and splendid curving shore. This sea-town was my world." - Dylan Thomas

The art is from Google Free Pics. It is the Gower Peninsula close to Swansea. It's called Three Cliffs.
For Debbie's poem for me last weekend, I teased and said I drank all the gin and ate most of the cake, that were both in my poem from her. So, that's why I'm returning the virtual favor and that is what the last line is about.

If you would like a tribute/birthday poem written, (makes no difference if you had one already or not) please PM me and let me know the date. I would be happy to do one for you or for one of your loved ones.
